Information network in the r&d center of interns
Rok Jun is koreans at northwestern university. He is reading for a degree in statistics, mathematics and economics.
Rok Jun as an intern in the research and development center of our information network system for six weeks.
Why did you choose in sumitomo electrical engineering practice?
I just graduated from university, is waiting for the graduate school of school. At the same time, I hope the applications of statistics and mathematics knowledge to actual practice, sumitomo electric industries provide is just what I want to practice. Not only the SEI technology (machine learning) job description attracted my interest, its r&d activities also international reputation.I am sure that the internship for me would be a great learning experience, and will let me from becoming a competent the ultimate goal of data scientists one step closer. So, I immediately apply for the internship.
What did you do during the internship?
My project is to use contains the data set for the past traffic commuting time to predict the future traffic commuting time. Not only my teacher allowed me to use my favorite RStudio statistical software, my team has created for me to Amazon Web Services (AWS) account, so that I can handle my projects as efficiently as possible.During the internship, I think the team is very interested in what I do, it motivates me to work hard.In training with different kernel functions and parameters of various models, I can set up several models, these models can reliably predict the future traffic commuting time.As the location and dates change, must use different kernel and specific parameter values to accurately predict the future of commuting time.Through this program, I write code to improve skills, under the guidance of tutor, I also learned a novel way of evaluation model.
In addition, because I want to practice skills in Japanese, so I also try to use Japanese as much as possible to communicate with my mentor.Although explain all in Japanese technology of challenging, but for me, it is a good chance to practice.
What did you learn from this practice is the most interesting thing?
I've heard about time series data, but before this internship, I have never really on this data set of any form of statistical analysis.I learned some interesting interpolation method, the method is especially suitable for time series data and time series visualization of unique mode.Compared with most of the data that I've explored, dealing with time series data is absolutely more difficult. However, the completion of the internship, I how to effectively deal with time series data for the future have a more clear understanding.
Practice to shape your career if you have any help?
Obtained from the practice of the most valuable harvest is that I experienced as a r&d engineer or data scientists.I very much enjoy solving problems confronted with us here and thinking about how to respond to new tasks and challenges every day.I learned a lot.More importantly, the experience helped me to further aspires to be a data scientist.
In the future you plan to attend the internship students have any Suggestions?
If the job description in accordance with your request, I strongly recommend that you apply for the internship.I'm sure it will be you to extend the interest domain knowledge and an excellent chance to explore and attractive Japanese culture!Even if you do not know anything about Japan, it does not matter.Your colleagues and peers and former interns (now the staff) will ensure that you have a pleasant stay here!
