Yuyao Wang

In electrical engineering

Power system research and development center of interns

Yuyao is studying in the university of Illinois at urbana-champaign singaporeans. He is pursuing a master's degree in electrical engineering.
Yuyao as an intern in our power system research and development center for 10 weeks.

Why did you choose in sumitomo electrical engineering practice?

I want to work life experience in the industry, because so far I have been to focus on my academic research, have not had a chance to practice.I am also very interested in understanding how to learn in college courses of technical knowledge used in the industry.Sumitomo electric global internship program is very accord with my wishes.Provided by the position and the scope of work, in full compliance with my professional power system enabled me to make full use of technical knowledge learned in college. In Japan, the beautiful country to explore and experience the life and culture is an extra harvest, which made the internship program more attractive.

What did you do during the internship?

My main goal is to develop during my internship in micro grid electric simulation model of SEI plans to its energy management system (sEMSA) mounted to the model. To do this, I must first learn how to use the power system simulation software RTDS.After, I use the software development simulation model, validation, and improve the accuracy of the simulation of micro power grid. Finally, I'll simulation model and sumitomo electric energy management system integration and connect together, in order to test.Micro grid contains the generator and battery pack, they have the complex internal system, the accurate simulation is a challenge. This I need to use knowledge in the university to fully understand and accurately modeling these systems.I will spend most of the time in the laboratory simulation and colleagues cooperation with Japan and simulation system integration.

What did you learn from this practice is the most interesting thing?

To me, know your limits and ability is the most interesting. Before the internship, I'm worried about the potential communication problems, the lack of knowledge and experience will affect my internship performance. But, I can quickly adapt to the new environment. In the whole process, my mentor and manager gives me help and support. When I lack the necessary knowledge or unable to find these on the Internet, they help me to adapt to the working environment, and the information in the reference books to help me to study Japanese.Internship help me set up in the face of new situation confidence in their ability to adapt and learning ability.

Practice to shape your career if you have any help?

Intern for our understanding of the development way of sumitomo electric industries and the industry is very useful. This decision is to continue to conduct academic research in the future to me or get industry work experience helps. In addition, the power system simulation software RTDS is industry standard tool, widely used in research and testing purposes.Learning and using its experience will help in my future career, and to provide more opportunities for me.

In the future you plan to attend the internship students have any Suggestions?

This practice provides many opportunities, and these opportunities are hard to get in a single. In terms of technology, sumitomo electric is a number of key technology leader.Practice will make you to experience how to carry on advanced research and development in the industry. You also have time and opportunity to travel around Japan, Japanese culture. With some planning, you can make full use of the weekend to visit Japan during the internship across multiple scenic spots and historical sites.
